Nissan (for a limited time) is offering the Xterra with a Technology Package at no charge. With a suggested retail price of $1,300, the tech-package – one of two optional equipment packages offered for the 2009 model year – provides a slew of gadgets, including Bluetooth hands-free phone system, steering wheel audio controls, a Rockford Fosgate audio system as well as eight high-performance speakers and subwoofer. Other changes for 2009 encompass exterior styling and interior tweaks. Xterra Off-Road models now have off-road lights built into the roof rack air dam as standard fare, and all models showcase an altered look to the front end. The interior revisions include a new center instrument panel cluster, new heating/cooling switches, and new seating materials.

Xterra (sold in X, S, Off-Road and SE models) four-wheel drive models are fitted with a new side step for 2009. The SUV is powered by a 4.0-liter V6 that kicks out 261 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 281 pounds-feet torque at 4000 rpm. Xterra sports an all-steel ladder frame, a double wishbone front suspension, and a rear suspension with a solid leaf spring and stabilizer bars. The ready-for-any-adventure Xterra’s cargo area includes (an available) soft-pouch first aid kit stowed inside the tailgate’s inner panel. Per mile counts for the 4x4 Xterra with electronically controlled five-speed automatic transmission are 15 city and 20 highway. A six-speed manual transmission is available.
