Double-digit gains in horsepower and torque numbers arrive in 2009 on the performance model of the XC70. The new XC70 T6’s turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine bests the standard XC70 3.2-liter six-cylinder by an additional 46 horsepower and 59 more pounds-feet of torque. (XC70 T6 provides 281 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 295 pounds-feet of torque between 1500 and 4800 rpm versus the XC70 3.2 that generates 235 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 236 pounds-feet of torque at 3200 rpm.) There are only a few overt visual changes between the XC70 models. The performance version’s exterior beauty marks include special 17-inch alloy wheels, dual tailpipes, and T6 tailgate badge. Unique XC70 T6 interior treatments include an instrument cluster that takes its design cues from a watch dial.

The 2008 model year marked the debut of the third-generation XC70 crossover wagon. In 2009, buyers who opt for the new XC70 T6 will pay only $2,250 more than the MSRP of the XC70 3.2. All versions of the XC70 have standard all wheel drive. The XC70 T6 is a bit heavier with a curb weight of 4,215 pounds versus 4.092 pounds for the XC70 3.2. Volvo XC70 T6, like the XC70 3.2, is fitted with a six-speed automatic transmission. Several package options are available, including a Climate Package that offers heated front and rear seats as well as other weather-inspired appointments. XC70 T6 collects estimated mpg numbers of 15 city and 22 highway and carries a MSRP of $37,250.
