While compact pick-up trucks should be on endangered species list, full-size trucks are alive and well. In the 2007 model year, GM re-introduced its Silverado full-size pick-up with an all-new attitude and look for the interior and exterior. For the 2008 model year, the heavy-duty 2500 (signifying the _-ton truck) Silverado is essentially unchanged. This model year the minor modifications include making XM Satellite Radio standard fare, making the gauge pointers illuminate a bit brighter, and adding two exterior colors choices. When a product is good, not much needs to be changed. However, the test driven Silverado 2500 4WD extended cab LT2 could have been a bit easier to enter if the driver’s side – like the passenger side – included a grab handle. (The steering wheel isn’t always the preferred grab handle substitute.)

When powered by the standard 6.0-liter V8, the Silverado 2500 4WD churns out 353 horsepower at 5400 rpm and 373 pounds-feet of peak torque at 4400 rpm. The V8 mates to a standard 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2500 Silverado is offered in three cab styles: regular, extended (a rear door that’s accessed when front door is open) and crew cab. There are three cargo box sizes and five wheelbase offerings. The Z71 off-road package is available as an optional suspension package. There are a number of options offered, including the $595 LT2 convenience package that includes a remote vehicle starter system. Dealer installed Chevy accessories include chrome mesh center grille, and roof mounted cross rails/carriers. MSRP of Silverado 2500 4WD LT2 extended cab is $34,705.
