The unmistakable Hummer H2 look is still evident, but the 2008 model year brings change via a new engine, a new transmission, and a new interior. Replacing the 6.0-liter V8 (that produced 325 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 365 pounds-feet of peak torque at 4000 rpm) is a 6.2-liter V8 that produces 393 horsepower at 5700 rpm and 415 pounds-feet of peak torque at 4300 rpm. The four-speed automatic transmission is also gone, replaced by a six-speed automatic transmission. That new powertrain combination means an additional 1700 pounds of towing capacity (now at 8200 pounds). Among the now standard safety features are electronic stability control with rollover mitigation, panic brake assist, and side airbags with a rollover sensor system.

Hummer H2’s former utilitarian interior – with its military upright center stack flanked by oversized oval vents – has been re-drafted in a new uniform that emphasizes a classic, modern look. The all-new interior spotlights full leather/heated front seats as well as a permanent third row for two adults versus the prior model year’s optional seat for one person. The revisions also illuminate a more streamlined instrument panel. Even though H2’s interior has gone upscale, H2 remains a consummate all-terrain SUV. Standard fare items include fulltime four-wheel-drive, full-size spare tire, and a Bose 9-speaker audio system. The $1,555 Adventure Package adds a self-leveling rear air suspension, first aid kit, tool kit, and heavy-duty rubber floor mats. MSRP of the Hummer H2 SUV is $55,510.
