Buick’s return to V8 engine power – after a decade without it – comes via the new Lucerne. The 4.6-liter Northstar V8 (producing an estimated 275 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 290 pounds-feet of peak torque at 4400 rpm) is standard on the CXS version and optional on the CXL. Standard engine on the base Lucerne is a 3.8-liter V6. Both engines mate to a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The performance-tuned Lucerne CXS comes with standard Magnetic Ride Control in which magnetically charged particles – that are suspended in a synthetic fluid – continuously adjust the fluid’s viscosity.

QuietTuning engineering efforts – including composite wheel housing liners and composite nylon baffles in the roof pillars – make the Lucerne’s interior environment virtually immune from road, wind and powertrain path noises. Front wheel drive Lucerne’s available creature comforts are highlighted by items such as heated and cooled front seats, factory-installed remote start, ultrasonic rear parking assist, rear window defogger, heated wiper fluid, and a six-disc in-dash CD changer with MP3 player. On the safety side, Lucerne features dual depth deploying air bags for front passengers, a patented technology. One year OnStar service is another standard on the Lucerne. Mileage estimates for Lucerne are 17 city/25 highway. MSRP for the Lucerne CXL is $29,265.
