Ford Freestyle puts passengers in control as this vehicle offers three rows of seating – all orientated toward comfort. The third row, which can fold flat, has sufficient headroom via a raised roofline. Second row standard bucket seats (a 60/40 split bench seat is optional) recline, and can be mounted on optional adjustable tracks to increase legroom. From a safety standpoint, the Freestyle has an available side curtain airbag. For the driver’s protection, an adaptive steering column collapses horizontally at a speed that is based on whether or not the driver is wearing the seatbelt. For the 2006 model year, the only changes to the Freestyle are a new exterior color (silver birch) and an optional navigation system.

Freestyle is offered in three trims: SE, SEL, and the top-reaching Limited version. Performance is dependant on a 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 203 horsepower at 5750 rpm and 207 pounds-feet at 4500 rpm of torque. Standard transmission is a six-speed automatic with overdrive, while the optional transmission is a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Like many vehicles in the minivan/SUV/crossover category, there are a few clever stow zones, such as Freestyle’s dashboard spot that is accessed via a recessed lid. Freestyle is fairly nimble for a large vehicle, providing 39.7 feet of curb-to-curb steering. Standard fare on Freestyle Limited includes 18-inch aluminum wheels, fog lamps, roof rack, keyless keypad entry, all wheel drive, and anti-lock brakes. Mile per gallon estimates are 19 city, and 24 highway for Freestyle with CVT. MSRP of Freestyle Limited is $30,580.
