There’s the two-wheel Harley, and then there’s the four-wheel version. Ford and Harley-Davidson first joined forces for special edition vehicles in 1999. Now in 2006, comes the 8th model from that alliance, the Ford F-150 Harley-Davidson. Dressed in black, the pick-up’s exterior visual cues include front fender die-cast zinc Harley-Davidson badges and twin-tip chrome exhaust pipes to funnel out a distinct guttural sound. An orange bolt trimmed in electric blue accents the body sides. Gigantic 22-inch polished and forged aluminum wheels give the truck that extra element of aggression. Inside the F-150 SuperCab are black leather, oversized seats with Harley-Davidson badges, numerous chrome trimmings and a dashboard positioned nickel plate that designates the vehicle’s production number. (Of note: the SuperCab provides rear passengers access via door/s that only open if front door/s are open.)

The truck features a 6 1/2-foot cargo bed and is available in either 4x2 or 4x4, representing a F-150 first. Both the 4x2 and 4x4 versions employ a coil-on-shock, long spindle, double wishbone front suspension with aluminum lower control arms – marking a first for the pick-up segment. The rear suspension is a Hotchkiss-design with rear shock absorbers positioned outboard of the frame rails to help improve body lean control. The 5.4-liter V8 Triton engine (producing 300 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 365 peak torque at 3750 rpm) when mated to the 4-speed automatic transmission gathers per gallon fuel estimates of 14 city/18 highway. (The truck also is available in a flex-fuel version that’s capable of using E85 ethanol.) MSRP of the V8 powered truck with automatic transmission is $38,285.
