Ah, the beauty of having options. Feel like pumping ethanol into the flexible fuel version of the F-150, well that’s no problem as the truck works on either unleaded gasoline, or on E85 ethanol. That makes this full-size pickup truck a mini-portrait of eco-friendly greenness. Whether ethanol or gasoline is the fuel choice, the F-150 gets ample power from the 5.4-liter Triton V8 engine that produces 300 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 365 pounds-feet of torque at 3750 rpm. The engine is matched to a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. From a ride and handling standpoint, the F-150 4x4 is grand. And the available 20-inch Pirelli Scorpion all terrain tires make a fine compliment to the package.

In the Super Crew/four-door configuration, the F-150’s oversized front seats and enormous rear bench seat present a lofty and comfortable view for everyone. And getting into the truck is made easy via the sturdy tubular running boards (a $350 option). The standard list on the FX4 trimmed truck include 27-gallon fuel tank, power rack-and-pinion steering, cargo box tie-down hooks, rear privacy glass, air conditioning, and an electronic shift-on-the-fly 4x4 system. The option equipment list includes a power moonroof ($995), and a reverse obstacle sensing system ($245). Per gallon mileage estimates are 14 city/18 highway for the 4x4 Super Crew, but the numbers are a bit lower when E85 is in the tank. MSRP of the F-150 4x4 FX4 is $35,935.
