The look isn’t typical SUV material, and that’s most visually evident from a semi-tall hood scoop. But with the Subaru 2005 Forester 2.5 XT, the look is only part of the package. Like a good SUV, there’s all wheel drive and low engine speed torque being released from the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder intercooled/turbocharged boxer powerplant that produces 210 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 235 pounds-feet torque at 3600 rpm. But Forester XT isn’t completely a good SUV, it’s also a rough and tumble wagon showcasing 7.5 inches of ground clearance, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a viscous limited slip rear differential.

Forester adds a few items for 2005, including an air filtration system, dual stage deployment driver’s airbag, and illuminated power lock switches. The vehicle is an ample aggressor, more so when beefed up with an $820 performance package option that adds a turbo boost gauge, metal pedals, and short-throw shifter. Even without the optional items, Forester 2.5 XT packs quite a bit on its standard offerings list – from windshield and rear wiper de-icer, cargo cover and tie-down hooks to roof rails with cross bars, and an 8-way power driver’s seat. Forester 2.5 XT registers estimated fuel per gallon number of 19 city/24 highway. MSRP is $25,595.
