The perception that small vehicles are iffy in snowy conditions doesn’t materialize with the Suzuki Aerio SX. It navigates through snow. Available in two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive, the Aerio SX gains a bit more power in the 2003 model year – generating more horsepower (141 to 145) and torque (now at maximum 136 pounds-feet) on the 2.0-liter DOHC, 16-valve 4-cylinder engine. For 2003, this mini-macho machine also adds an in-dash, six-disc CD changer (AX and GS models only), an outside temperature display and clock (in a dash-located recessed area), and three-point seatbelt fixtures at all five seating locations – a welcome and necessary upgrade from the 2002 model if you overlook the slight rearview mirror vision block caused by a rear seat harness.

Aerio SX is heavy on the application of oversized knobs, which is always a smart design feature. The car provides a very comfortable ride (courtesy of supportive seats and a stiff, new unibody shell reinforced with cross and side members). Standard fare on the Aerio SX includes air conditioning, cruise control, 5-speed manual transmission, fog lamps, rear window defroster, remote keyless entry, power windows/locks/mirrors, and split fold rear seat. Options include a 4-speed automatic transmission ($1,000) and antilock brake system ($500). Per gallon mileage estimates are 26 city/31 highway with automatic transmission. MSRP of the Aero SX is $14,999.
